Believe it or not, I came into the running world by accident. In 2012 I had started to get myself into shape, for several different reasons, but mainly it was to improve my life overall. One day, while I was out on a run, I realized just how running made me feel, how fitness helped me meet myself. It was at that point I realized I had done something incredible. I had started a whole new life, I started over. I closed the book, tossed it over the side and started a new book. While most of the people I knew were moving out of state to find themselves, to start over, I did it, right here in Los Angeles.

How did I get here? Well, it took me a long time to get here. I had battled domestic violence for over ten (10) years. It took every little bit of strength that I had to pack up what little I had and with my son, I got into my car and left. It was very humiliating at first to admit that I had to move back into my parents house because I needed help. I was scared, very scared, and I felt lost. He attempted to continue the mental abuse game through threatening phone calls, through custody and visitation battles, to even calling my parents and talking to them. After five (5) years of constantly standing up to him, fighting him, having CPS investigate claims that he was abusing my son, and following my gut instinct, I obtained sole custody of my son. I never heard from him again.

It was at this point, in early 2013, that I was finally free, I started to go to the gym to get back into shape. I also started running. I couldn’t even run a quarter of a mile. I trained to run just a mile and a half. During the course of one year, I had lost ninety (90) pounds, I could runs  5k without stopping, I was also building muscle.

One day while surfing the internet, trying to learn all I could about running, I came across the website for Run Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood 5k. I admit, that it looked intimidating because I lacked confidence in myself. I did the unthinkable, and I signed up for the Run Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood 5k. It was this race, that showed me the positivity of the people in the running community, it also gave me the confidence I needed to continue on. I never looked back.

While I was on Instagram, I came across the account for the Los Angeles Marathon. I saw the medal for the 30th Anniversary, but most importantly, I read the comments of the runners and they were having so much fun. I was honestly smiling and getting excited to read just how much fun they had. I said to myself “Next year, I will be one of those runners. I will run the Los Angeles Marathon”.  The goal was set, and I had a plan to accomplish that goal.

As I crossed the finish line in Santa Monica on February 14, 2016 I officially became a marathon runner. It was all surreal, I couldn’t believe that I just finished 26.2 miles. I couldn’t believe that I just ran and finished the Los Angeles Marathon. It was at that moment, I realized how strong I truly am and that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. After I got my finisher medal, I found a bench, sat down, and cried. Cried out of pure happiness, I couldn’t believe it. I almost cried three times during the marathon because I couldn’t believe that I was actually doing it. It was emotional for me.

To date I have run a total of (16) sixteen 5k events, (7) seven 10k events, ten (10) half marathons, three (3) marathons, and completed five (5) race challenges. Something sparked inside of me, after my first marathon, I decided that I wanted to conquer the distance. I want to be able to do the distance with ease, so I can accomplish my goal of running the Boston Marathon. I also want to run one marathon in all fifty (50) states. My dream is to travel the world, and run marathons while I travel. That dream is starting to become a reality. In 2017, I traveled to France to run the Paris Marathon. It was my first intentional marathon, and my first time out of the country.

In the summer of 2017 I was selected to be an Ambassador for Orange Mud. I am so excited and truly blessed to be an ambasador for a company who’s products I use constantly. I also became a Half Fantatic (# 16475), and I am super excited about that. 

I have goals, I have dreams, and I will accomplish it all. All I have to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other; by never quitting, and by moving forward no matter what. 

My blog is all about me. Its my race stories, my training adventures, fitness, and everything that is Los Angeles. In addition, I share my life with you because it surly does keep me busy at times. I hope that no matter where you are in your life, that not only my blog, but what has happened in my life, inspire you to take that first courages step forward to accomplishing your dreams. This is me, and I invite you to sit in the front of row, and join me on my journey.

  1. thank you for sharing your story! you ran many of the same races I ran in 2015 + 2016. I loved OC hm…ran the Beach Cities Challenge, don’t care for Surf City or LB…once you see the beaches in HI, others just don’t compare. Consider the Haupalua HM (April…maybe in 2018)…noooo time limit. I’m running the LA NYR. Am a Legacy Runner and former Angeleno, gotta support anything LA!

    1. You’re running the New Years Race? So am I. My 3rd year in a row. I’ve seen the legacy medal, it is awesome! One of the Ambassadors for NYR said I’m almost at legacy for the race, two more years 🙂 I have looked into doing the Hapalua in 2018, then doing Honolulu that same year. I’m also looking into either doing the half or full marathons in Kona, and Kauai.
