2017 Santa Monica Classic

Its here. L.A.’s premiere race season has started. I have been looking forward to this race since I finished the Los Angeles Marathon. Ok, here we go.

Ame had found me while walking to the start line. I love this woman, she is incredible, and she gave me the biggest hug I’ve ever gotten in my entire life. We hung out, and had a lot of laughs. Its great meeting your friends from Instagram, and truly connecting with people who have the same positive mental mindset as you do.

They let us out in waves this year, unlike last year. Yes, there were that many runners. This race is extremely popular and for good reason.

The weather. This gets me almost every single time. It was humid, and it wasn’t as hot as I thought it would be. I did empty my 21oz Orange Mud Handheld Hydration bottle before I got to the first water stop. The heat didn’t seem to bother me much, not like it did during the Lexus LaceUp OC 5k the day before. I could feel the humidity during the entire run, and it wasn’t of great concern to me. That I feel is a good thing. I just focused on having fun and staying hydrated.

This course is a pleasure to run. I do love this course. I ran the 5k this year so I could say that I experience both the 5k course and the 10k course. This course has classic views of the beach and of the Santa Monica Pier. It truly is a beautiful course.

Coming back is not an easy thing to do. I do feel myself returning to my normal self. I wasn’t expecting to PR, I just wanted to enjoy the course and finish. I accomplished both.  When I checked my results I placed 71st in my age division. Wow. This is twice in a row I placed inside the top 100. That is a first for me. Placing 23rd in my age division in the Lexus Lace-Up Running Series OC 5k, and now placing 71st in this race. This is motivation for me to work harder, get stronger, and get faster.

I am very proud of myself this weekend, as I accomplished my comeback races, and placing high in my age division. It does feel great to run the smaller distances, and it feels great to be back out and running.
